My first infobit has to do with how social media has taken over traditional methods of marketing. In essence, consumers are tired of mass marketing techniques such as billboards, radio/television ads, or what the article calls "outboard" marketing. "Inbound" marketing targets those specific individuals who would be interested in the product. A great example would be when Facebook buys information which other companies have collected of what a person may view on their computer, then they put those specific ads on their facebook account. For new start ups this is a better technique to market yourself for several reasons: it is much cheaper than to buy airtime on the radio or television or put up a billboard, and it targets your demographic much better rather than going for a mass appeal. The article is really a summary of what can be found in the book "Inbound Marketing: Get Found Using Google, Social Media, and Blogs."
