Our method to collect this data is by connecting a camera to back a vehicle that makes the same trip day in and day out, like driving to Mount Royal from Panorama Hills. The purpose of this camera will be to record and track the average distance following vehicles keep from the vehicle. This would go on for a couple of months, one day without the DBS system and one day with to keep the consistency between weather patterns and road conditions and lighting for both sets of data. With the results from our research we will be able to prove that following drivers tend to be more cautious when the brake light goes off at any instance that the vehicle loses momentum. This would make our innovation an attractive addition to vehicles for insurance companies, because it will reduce the number of rear end accidents that they have to pay out for, and to the Canadian automotive industry because it will make the Canadian roads that much safer.
